Gelert West can provide care and support for up to six young people. We provide a team of staff who are dedicated to caring for young people and who will always listen. We are a nurturing team who understand that some of our young people have not had the care and support they have needed in early life and that changing where you live can be unsettling.
We strive to make our home a fun place to live with a welcoming and warmly furnished environment. Each young person has their own bedroom where they can put their own decorative mark. We also have two bathrooms, and a lounge with a games room to the side.
Our large kitchen diner is for us to have mealtimes together where we can chat about our day and sometimes talk about things that matter to our residents. To the side of the kitchen diner is a sunlounge; this is often used for TV-watching. This leads on to our decking area in the garden.
Each young person will have their own key worker who is a member of our staff, and they are responsible for arranging any appointments or meetings. They can also discuss things in private on a one-to-one basis and will always be a strong advocate for our young people. Even if they are not around, any of our team will always be available for a chat and ready to help.
We also help with everyday tasks if you need us to, such as getting ready for school or going to a medical appointment. We also enjoy bowling, cycling, laser tag, the cinema, swimming or just shopping for some new clothes. We also understand after a day at our school, sometimes it’s just better to relax in the house. We have a cook in the day who prepares a range of tasty meals, but if our residents enjoy cooking meals or baking cakes then they can help out in the evening or at the weekend.
